what’s the difference between black and grey sunflower seeds?

I just brought a great big bag of black/dark grey sunflower seeds as a treat for my cockatiel. Then my friend said that she was told that the dark sunflower seeds are bad for birds and you should feed them grey sunflower seeds. I didn’t even know that you could get different coloured seeds. The pack was a cheap brand but it was labeled “for birds” and my bird loves them. So is it safe to feed him these or should i try and find some grey ones?

Black Sunflower seeds have more oil in them-sometimes called oil sunflower seeds. both are fattening, though black more so. The problem with black seeds, is that birds like them so much, they will only eat them and ignore other food, and are sort of “addicting”. Please note, that the regular sunflower seeds are only slightly better. Use them as treats only.
