The Necessity Of Wood Frames To Loft Beds
A loft bed is designed in such a way that the bed is lifted off the ground so the space beneath it can be utilized for other purposes. Never use pressure treated lumber for loft. This is because pressure treated lumbers are not meant for indoor use. The chemicals use in treating them called chromated copper arsenic or CCA are toxic. The EPA released strict rules regarding the use of this lumber indoors.
One good reason why you need to look at the frames of lofts is to know the weight capacity of bed. The unit must be capable of handling the weight of user. If the loft is made of lightweight wood and the user sleeping on it weighs a lot, the loft may not be suitable for him.
At the same time, parents must know that majority of the manufacturers made the design of bed for young kids. Most lofts have weight capacity of at most 200 pounds. The 200 pound weight capacity may appear to be a lot of weight already but since this total weight includes the user weight, mattress and foundation, this limit might be low.
